It is really a walk of two halves; as far as Cairnryan it provides pleasant shoreline walking with brief roadside sections, but after Cairnryan it climbs ontoThe Loch Ryan Coastal Path extends from Stranraer in the south to Glenapp Church in the north, a distance of approximately 11 miles (18 km). The Loch Ryan Coastal Path starts at the Visit Scotland Information Centre near the harbour at Stranraer and follows the coast line all the way to the far end of Cairnryan. The path then ascends fairly steeply but on a good surface to reach the Taxing Stane and the remains of WW11 gun emplacements.
